It's truly an impossible dream now. The Pirates have been eliminated from the postseason.

On Tuesday evening at PNC Park, the Cubs collected their 14th win in 17 games against the Pirates this season, taking a 6-4 decision. That result, combined with the Giants' win over the Rockies later in the night, doomed the Pirates to an October on the couch for the first time since 2012.

Losers of four in a row and five of six, the Pirates (77-80) have capitulated in 17 of their past 21 games on their home field, where they went 53-28 last year. With a 37-42 mark at PNC Park in 2016, they are guaranteed to have a losing record on the North Shore for the first time since 2011.
